Since emigrating from the UK in 2006 Fiona has been generating ideas and writing creative features for, among others, North & South, AA Directions, New Zealand Geographic, Australia & New Zealand magazine, New Zealand Listener, Mindfood, Farmers Weekly, School Journal, Woman's Day and Woman's Weekly.
Prior to the move to New Zealand, she wrote a regular piece for The Sunday Times' Business Section, as well as contributing to many other publications including The Times, Independent on Sunday, News of the World's Sunday supplement, Express, BBC’s Eve magazine, The Great Outdoors, Woman’s Own and Woman. She'd spent a number of years in PR and corporate publication design, before having changed tack to take on full-time feature writing via a Postgraduate Diploma in Magazine Journalism at Cardiff University, Wales.
Having always had a passion for travel, it was a family trip to Africa as a teenager that first led her to begin travel writing. She's carried on producing travel features ever since and holidays have never been the same as a result.
A round-the-world trip with husband Tim first brought her to New Zealand in 2000. The pair yearned to spend more time here, especially after re-visiting during a commission to write a feature for The Independent on Sunday about travelling around the world in just a month. Finally, with their two (then) small children, they upped sticks in 2006 and moved to Nelson.
